Sap Season

 IV Tubes in the Woods

Sap lines

The conditions have to be just right. Below freezing at night and above freezing during the day.  Once the leaves bud it is all over. This is a photo taken behind Mad Moose sugarhouse on Smithville road in New Ipswich, NH

Sap into Syrup

Most of the sugarhouses push the sap through a reverse osmosis filter to remove water and concentrate the sugar level. Then the concentrated sap is boiled away in an evaporator.

Open House (2017)

Somero Maple Farm

It is always fun to visit the various sugarhouses to sample the syrup and even get some pancakes. As I did in March 2017 at the Somero Maple Farm.

Somero Kids

I make an annual pilgrimage to various sugarhouses. This photo was taken at the Somero Maple Farm five years ago when the family had a few new babies. They are probably a lot bigger by now.

The Rustic Look

Sawyer Sugarhouse

The Sawyer sugarhouse on Route 124 has the "look" I expect from a sugarhouse. It even had plenty of mud, since sap season is also mud season.

Ben's Sugar Shack

Ben's sugar shack in Temple also has a rustic look. It is a popular spot for tourists, since it is right off of route 101.

Daily Wordle

If you are in the Wordle Cult, you’ll be interested in my daily score. We all solve the same puzzle each day, one word in a 24 hour timeframe. It is a competition. I was posting my score on Facebook much to the annoyance of non-Wordle people who rightly express the opinion “Who Cares”. However those people never stared at a screen for 20 minutes trying to figure out NYMPH. They don’t know the amount of energy it can take to solve one of these. In deference to my wordle-less friends I have stuck my score under an article that might interest them. You are free to look away now because here it comes:
