Don't let the cats out

Image
They are Brothers Our friend in Maine has two orange cats, one is named Pumpkin and the other is named for another orange food item. They are brothers and are very friendly. Unlike most cats that I have met for the first time, they didn't run and hide, but stuck around and spent a large amount of time sniffing my shoes.  I'm always happy to meet new felines especially when they are willing subjects for photos. Bigleaf Magnolia

Image
Magnolia macrophyla (or is it macrophylla) Sue Anderson of Mason Hollow Nursery posted on Facebook that their Bigleaf Magnolia was in bloom on schedule for Father's day. I decided to take a pilgrimage to see this tree which boasts the largest leaf and flower of any native plant in North America. This photo gives no indication of the size but Chuck Anderson agreed to demonstrate the leaf size. Chuck explained that these goofy trees were native to our region prior to the ice age. I realized that one needed a home in our yard next to the other living dinosaurs (my Gingko and Dawn Redwood ). Planted in my yard next to the Dawn Redwood. We'll see how this works out. Stay tuned for updates.

Look What I Saw at the Green Center

Chicken Socks The pick of the week would be these chicken leg socks. Sadly they too small to wear. A Tour of the Green Center The "Green Center" is our town's recycling center for used clothing, household items, books, toys, and some unique items (such as these socks). It is maintained by an army of volunteers who sort through donated items and organize them into different sections. The Center is open to the residents of Greenville and New Ipswich only. There is no cost for the items but donations are welcome. The Center is generally open on alternate Saturdays, but Holidays can disrupt that schedule.  A printed schedule is available at the Center or posted on the Life in New Ipswich Facebook Page .
